When the Washington Commanders changed ownership, it was a new day for the organization, players, personnel and especially the loyal fan base. Things instantly began to look up as Josh Harris became the mass stakeholder and Magic Johnson came on board you could almost instantly feel the energy that had been missing since….since…well since Dan Snyder became the owner. Harris not only purchased the team but became their number 1 fan. His passion for his Commanders runs deep than the money making toy that the previous owner ran them like. Harris instantly hired football people who had track records of success starting with General Manager Adam Peters (former 49ers executive) which then led to Head Coach Dan Quinn. They weren’t done because they selected questionably the top Quarterback on the board in Jayden Daniels. They continued to make selections through the 2024 draft eloquently making picks that will contribute in time because they fit the philosophy that they felt can win in today’s NFL. Free agency brought players like Frankie Luvu and Austin Eckler and a trade for Marshawn Lattimore brought even more hope. After resurrecting Terry McLaurin’s career, allowing Brian Robinson Jr to do his thing as the primary running back things began to look up and a .500 season seemed reasonable. Through coaching and trust of a rookie quarterback the Commanders played at a whole different level than most expected. The unity they developed helped them to run their regular season record to 12-5 and a playoff berth. After disposing of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round, they beat the top seeded Detroit Lions with a dominant performance in the divisional round and earned the right to meet one of their most fierce rivals in the NFC Championship, whom they split their regular season contests with 1-1, the Philadelphia Eagles. Although the game did not end the way the Cinderella Commanders had hoped there is much to be excited about as they head towards 2025 with a full slate of draft picks and a projected 87.5 million dollars in cap space, Commanders fans, players, ownership, coaches and anyone who has been waiting for this resurrection has got to be excited for the 2025 season to get here.
