Virginia (12-12, 5-8 ACC) traveled to Blacksburg on Saturday to face Virginia Tech (11-13, 6-7 ACC) in the 160th edition of their rivalry.
The Cavaliers have won three of their last four games heading into the matchup, with their only loss
since 2010 coming in a heartbreaking 75-74 defeat against Virginia Tech on Feb. 1. The Hokies have not swept UVA
But down the Rhode we must go—literally. Andrew Rohde has been the key to Virginia's win streak. In the team's first 12 games, he recorded 27 assists to 29 turnovers. In the last 12? A remarkable 66 assists and just 8 turnovers.
So, what happened in the game? Virginia got the win—that's what happened!
It wasn't pretty, though. The Cavaliers struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 8-of-23 from the field. But they made up for it at the free-throw line, going 13-of-14. Rohde played just eight minutes in the second half due to foul trouble, but others stepped up. Isaac McKneely led the way with 22 points, while Anthony Robinson had a career-high 15 points and seven rebounds. Great win Wahoos!
Two weeks ago, UVA was fighting just to stay in the ACC Tournament conversation. Now, after winning four of their last five, the Cavaliers (13-12, 6-8 ACC) have climbed closer to the middle of the pack.
Next up? A huge test against No. 3 Duke (21-3, 13-1 ACC) in Charlottesville on Big Monday.
